Goyang-shi

Seoul circa 1950

Ah Seoul circa 1950! I can see my house in the upper right hand corner. Not really, but there is a reason I put this picture here. I offer this as an approximation of where my new place of employment is. I now work outside of Seoul in an area called Goyang-dong (고양동). This area is a lot more rural that the major metropolis I'm living in. The people there are a lot different. Kids know how to ride bikes, and hardly anyone has a cellphone. Additionally in spite of the fact that Seoul city limits are only like 20 minutes away by bus, most of my students had never been there, and were in awe that I lived there. Ah small town Korea. Oh I nearly forgot there are trees there! Oh my god!
