Happy Children's Day
Hello there, and happy Children's Day. "What's Children's Day?" you ask. Well friend, Children's Day is a day on which already spoiled Korean children recieve a national holiday on which to be furthur spoiled. Now I think that Korean children are especially coddled and spoiled to the point that a lot of them are little bastards and according to a book I'm reading called The Koreans by Michael Breen this lack of discipline in a children's upbringing lead to a Korea whose government and business are control by what are basically 50+ year old children in business suits (who still have temper tantrums when they don't get their way), but I digress. What I was saying that I think children here are already too spoiled, but if I'm getting a bonus day off I figure, "Hey kids! Oh you are awesome! What overpriced trinket do you want? I'll tell you a secret. If you whine or yell long enough your parents will buy it for you. Now I'll tell you why I'm jealous. That worked for me maybe once or twice when I was a toddler, but in America we do something called growing up, so it wouldn't work very long for me. Don't worry this doesn't apply to you. You keep screaming and crying anytime you don't get your way and mom and dad will give you what you want. You just keep Children's Day in existance."
One day off from work is almost adequate compensation for listening to grown men and women screaming about stupid crap, or to hear 20-something girls whine like kindergarteners because their lives are hard because they have to get a job so they can pay the rent? Nope. Support a child? Nope. Pay for school? Nope. Buy clothes and or plastic surgery? Yup.
So again, Happy Children's Day Korea...all you deserve it.
Last night was my friend, 깬닙's birthday, so we rocked it out KOREAN STYLE!!! Here's some photo evidence.

This is 깬닙. She is 유림's friend. On May 4th, 2004, she had a birthday party, at a bar called A-sa (あさ/아싸). She didn't really like this picture, but it's fun so 매롱!

Here I am being attacked with a plastic knife. I think this stems from the picture I took of 깬닙 blowing out candles on her cake.

This is a picture from 깬닙's birthday party. From left to right there is 유림 (U-rim), 김정희 (Kim Jung-hee), and 깬닙 (Ggen-nip). We went to a bar and drank some brew and ate some cake, and I now look forward to my own birthday.
Here's some assorted other crap I've had hanging out on my hard-drive.

This statue is outside of the Dong-seo Han-bang Byeong-won (동서한방병원), which is a hospital that offers traditional Korean medicine and treatments (known in the west as Chinese medicine). This hospital is about a one minute walk from my bedroom, so if I ever need accupuncture or some more gross hanyak (한약, Korean medicine) I know where to go.
I don't know what this dude's name is. I'd write that I'd check next time I went out, but I know that would be a lie, and lying is wrong.
