반찬 (Banchan)

Here's some more random 반찬 (banchan). 반찬 is Korean for "side dish," any time you go to a resturaunt, they serve up an assortment of these dishes in addition to whatever you order. The stuff in the middle was potato if memory serves me correctly.

When you order food anywhere in Korea you are instantly presented with countless 반찬 (ban chan). These side dishes can consist of anything from fish to vegetables (as pictured here). Usually they will include at least a couple kinds of kimchi. (2004-03-18)

멸치와 야채반찬. Ah dig those anchovies. These things have a tendency to show up all over the place. I have actually consumed these things (mostly to say I ate them before), however I'm not about eating them. For starters, they are mad salty, and secondly they still have their eyes, and when I eat the fish, I can't stop thinking that the fish is looking at me. Anyhow I don't really know what the vegetable thing was. It kind of looked like a cucumber, but didn't taste like one. It tasted pickled or fermented or otherwise rotten. AWESOME! (2004-03-08)
