Rock Show: Unionway Showcase

Hey kids, it's skate punk showcase time! Get ready to rock with seven skate punk bands...so you know what that means: fast, loud, and furious (and a ska band).

First up to bat were Half Brothers. This band featured several crustaches. I soon realized that this was a trend in the scene, as most of the band had at least one such crustache.

Half Brother's guitar player. In addition to the crustache he was also sporting a towel on his head.

Propeller21. These were the guys I came to see. They play really fast melodic punk and are really outstanding.

Propeller21 guitarist rockin' the awesome.

Next up was Dub Spain. If memory serves me correctly they used to be the ska band, Brassman. The band played reggae/ska/dub and featured a guy on alto sax rocking some Kenny G-esque solos.

Dub Spain again. They weren't really my cup of tea, but the singer kept refering to his band as "Action band Dub Spain," which is pretty awesome.

Johnny Royal! Fuckin' hardcore dude! These guys put on an incredible show. Such insane energy.

Johnny Royal's guitarist...looking like a Hispanic gangbanger.

The bassist from Half Brothers returns to rock the hell out of the scene. This is probably the best rockin' out picture I've ever snapped. Dude was literally like 5 inches from my face.

The Choke Slammers. I couldn't tell you what they sounded like, yet I took over 50 pictures of them. This was mainly due to the fact that the singer was wearing a Mexican wrestling mask and did wrestling moves.

King Kong Bundy and The Junkyard Dog don't got nothing on these guys!

Non-wrestling members of The Choke Slammers. And actually I lied...I do remember one song they played: a cover of "La Bamba." How nuts is that?

Stunning Down. More upbeat poppy punk. They did a cover of the song, "Just The Two of Us," which if memory serves me correctly is a Will Smith song.

More Stunning Down. Check the drummer's turban.

Here's a better shot of said turban. Dude also looked like he was riding a horse as he played the drums.

Hollow Jan wrapped up the evening with some screaming emo / screamo / emo-core / awesomeness. They were all yelling and rolling on the floor and playing really melodic guitar riffs. They were a pretty outstanding group.

Yell emo kid! YELL!

Best picture ever!

After the show I was getting ready to leave when one of the guitarists from The Choke Slammers dragged me on stage for "group picture." I guess Unionway Krew was looking for some ethnic diversity for their website.
